I covered the basics of planning a 10x10 with Stylebook, but now I want to show you a couple of advanced tricks to help you plan the perfect capsule for your next outfit challenge. These tips include how to avoid losing motivation before the end, and what to do with all the inspiration style images you see from 10x10 friends!
1. Move what you need to the top of the list
Before I start selecting items, I create a temporary clothing folder group for my 10x10 items, with a few subcategories under it, and move the folder to the top of my Closet. You can rearrange the order of your categories by tapping Edit on the category screen and dragging a folder into a new position. This makes it really easy to see my capsule collection at once. I also look at the clothing category item count under the folder name to ensure I actually have 10 items in the capsule.
2. Find your pieces by color
Like many capsule lovers, I stick to a limited color palette so all of the pieces easily mix and match. After deciding which colors to use, I look at my closet by color inside the Style Stats feature. This way I can see all my pieces of a certain color at once, making it super easy to choose pieces for my capsule. As I choose my items I refile them to my temporary 10x10 folder.
3. Get more ideas when you run out
If I really can’t think of any more outfits and need a little style inspiration boost, I use Outfit Shuffle on a single item from the 10x10. Shuffling one piece at a time will give you up to 10 outfit options just for that item. The app usually puts together a few combinations that I didn’t think of, and I have fun experimenting. To do this, I open one of the pieces in the closet, tap the shuffle icon and then select my temporary 10x10 subcategories. Sometimes, I include an extra accessories category to give the app a few more options to play with.
4. Easily avoid boredom and laundry conflicts
During these challenges, I see a lot of 10x10 friends losing steam during the second half, which can be easily avoided with a little advanced planning. At the beginning, I always schedule my first choice outfits on the calendar and make an effort to space out repeated items to give myself variety and the opportunity to do laundry if necessary. However, I’m not locked into these choices, and I can easily move them around or choose something new if my mood changes. The calendar offers the ability to move items from day to day if you swipe across the line item and select the “Move” option.
5. Harness inspiration from the community
I love to collect inspirations as the challenge goes. Inevitably, I see looks from 10x10 friends that I want emulate later! You guys get really creative with layering and styling! To save my favorites, I copy the links and post them right into my Style Inspirations folder. When you paste a URL into Stylebook, it will clip the image and automatically save the reference URL, so you can go back see the original post later.
6. Wishlist tempting purchases
On the same note of getting inspired, these challenges make it very tempting to shop. To curb my unplanned insta-shopping impulse, I save pieces I like to my wishlist. This helps me implement a self-imposed waiting period. If I’m still into the piece later in the season, then I might consider purchasing it. Usually, the desire fades and I just wind up saving money! Bonus: if I wait and still want the item, sometimes the item will go on sale, too.
7. Save your work
As I mentioned, my 10x10 folders are temporary and after the challenge is done, I move my clothes back to their original home. However, I sometimes want to reference past 10x10 challeneges, especially if I really liked what I selected. In this case, I import my final outfits into a packing list to save the capsule as a cohesive collection for future reference. These capsules also make excellent actual packing lists because I already have a list of great outfits that have been tested and worn.
8. See how many times a piece of clothing is repeated
If you open the checklist in the packing list, you can see each clothing piece with the number of times it appears in the packing lists’s outfits. This is a good trick to see how many times you wore a certain piece during the challenge.
9. Benefit in the future: Re-wear your favorite outfits later
Lately, I’ve been on a mission to promote re-wearing your favorite outfits. If you really loved a particular outfit from the 10x10, make sure you save it in Stylebook and use it again in the future! You can reference them anytime in the app - and why not pop the look onto a future date on the calendar now!
10. Share your collection - build a 10x10 graphic
Use the infographic builder in the packing list feature to make a graphic with your clothing items, outfits and title image - all on one image. You can post your full 10x10 collection in your stories or share it on Pinterest, like in the photo below.
